Sale price$1,950.00
Trifari Tutti Frutti by Alfred Philippe Clips.
Limited edition Trifari 1930’s Tutti Frutti clips, designed by Alfred Philippe in Art Deco style. Rhodium plated silver tone clips with carved multi-color crystals. These clips were made during the period the Company was known as 'KTF' or Trifari, Krussman and Fishel. Trifari traded as one of America's premier costume jewelry companies from around 1910 and so their earlier pieces are rare and hard to find. These much sought after 1930's Art Deco Vintage Trifari dress clips are beautifully constructed with hand set crystals and elaborately carved 'fruit salad' stones, all hand set in rhodium plated silver tone metal. These clips would have adorned a lady's dress, fur, or jacket embodying the glamour and chic of the well-heeled in the 1930's. These iconic 'fruit salad' glass stones or 'Tutti Frutti' as they are also affectionately called, are the hallmark of perhaps the best designer to grace Trifari - Alfred Philippe. The Parisian born Alfred Philippe trained at the prestigious design school ‘L’Ecole Boulle.’ After emigrating to the US he worked as a fine jewelry designer for William Scheer Inc., one of the foremost manufacturing jewelers of the Art Deco era. Scheer created items for Cartier as well as Van Cleef & Arpels and Philippe was responsible for creating several full collections for these prestigious houses. Following the Crash in 1929, Philippe moved to Trifari as a designer, eventually becoming the head designer where he worked until his retirement in 1968. His fine jewelry experience strongly influenced his designs and jewelry manufacturing techniques. His Fruit Salad designs mimicked the Art Deco jewelry made by Cartier in the 1920s so you can begin to appreciate why this piece is a serious work of wearable art!
