Kurt Wayne was born in 1909 in Vienna, Austria. At the age of ten, he was placed in the care of a jeweler, where he learned the crafts of gold, silversmithing, diamond setting and watchmaking. Wayne immigrated to the United States in 1937, in New York City. He opened his business in 1945, where he developed personal relationships with the Zale family and Stanley Marcus of Neiman Marcus.
