About the DesignerHobé jewelry is highly sought after by collectors of costume jewelry worldwide. The story begins with Hobé Cie, a fine jewelry line in France, founded in 1887 by goldsmith Jacques Hobé in France. The costume jewelry division was added 40 years later by his son. Today, when costume jewelry collectors think of Hobé, they picture the tasselled and beaded necklaces made by Jacques’ son, William. William Hobé became an established American offshoot of the company in 1927. Hobé jewelry was sought after by many movie stars. By the 1940's and 50's, Hollywood stars such as Bette Davis and Ava Gardner were wearing Hobé, and his work was commissioned in movie productions and used by Florence Ziegfield for the Ziegfield Follies.
