Do You Know How The First S.T.Dupont Luxury Lighters Were Born?
Perhaps few of you know how the S.T. Dupont lighters, the famous Parisian brand of luxury lighters and cutters, first appeared.
Simon Tissot-Dupont, who stood behind this brand, has been Napoleon III's photographer since he was 25 years old, before opening this business. In the mid-1800s, Dupont learned how to keep Parisian luxury in check, as well as the market for high-quality fashion products.
Short History Of The S.T. Dupont Brand
The story of S.T. Dupont began in a workshop on Rue Dieu, Paris, in 1872, when the young Dupont began producing luxury suitcases for European elites.
Just 10 years after launching the business with high-quality leather suitcases and briefcases, his factory had become the supplier of one of the world's largest stores, Les Grands Magasins du Louvre, and S.T. Dupont brand products become an essential element among the highest social circles.
For 35 years, Simon Tissot-Dupont has been at the forefront of the industry as a leading manufacturer of high-quality leather bags, and his products have been appreciated and sought after.
Dupont left the company as an inheritance to his two sons, Lucien and André, in 1919. The two brothers made some changes in the workforce within the S.T. Dupont company, enriching the team of workers with craftsmen such as goldsmiths, jewelers, wood craftsmen, engravers, leather craftsmen, and locksmiths.
The Dupont brothers continued to produce briefcases and travel accessories, and at one point moved the factory to the family's hometown, Faverges, at the foot of the Alps, a commune near Lake Annecy.
10 years after acquiring the company and moving the workshop to the Alps, Lucien Tissot-Dupont left for New York to present S.T. Dupont at the Fifth Avenue store in Louis Cartier. The trip was extraordinarily successful and set another precedent for luxury travel accessories. With the economic downturn, Lucien was able to target an audience unaffected by the crisis.
When Was The First S.T Dupont Lighter Launched
The year 1941 would mark a new direction in the business of S.T. Dupont - the launch of the first S.T. Dupont lighter.
In that year, the Maharajah of Patiala ordered 100 splendid lacquered clutches for his harem and demanded that each contain a lighter of solid gold. The innovative artisans of the S.T. Dupont have joined forces to create the world's first luxury lighter.
That's how the S.T. Dupont lighter lines were born.
