Cameron Diaz "Un-Retires". Who Convinced Her To Get Back to Hollywood
Megastar Cameron Diaz is coming out of "retirement". She had left the "movie city" years ago, without looking back. But 2022 brings us a big surprise: Cameron Diaz is Back In Action!
Cameron Diaz is returning to films despite announcing her retirement a long time ago. The 49-year-old blonde will star in a Netflix film called "Back In Action", co-starring Jamie Foxx.
It seems that Jamie Foxx and Tom Brady succeeded in convincing her to return to better feelings about Hollywood and acting.
Cameron Diaz and Foxx previously worked together on 1999's drama Any Given Sunday and 2014's Annie remake, a comedy musical. This was also the last role Cameron played in Hollywood, after which she decided to retire. But now, 8 years later, Foxx convinces her to come back for the first time since she became a mother.
How Did Jamie Foxx Convince Cameron Diaz To "Un-Retire"?
In order to convince her, Foxx held a conference call with her and another big name who had flirted with the idea of retirement: Tom Brady.
The announcement was made by Jamie Foxx who posted a recording of himself on the phone to Cameron Diaz, transferring in American sports star Tom Brady to give Diaz advice on how to "un-retire."
"I don't know how to do this, you know?" Cameron Diaz says in the clip.
Brady replies, "I was talking to Jamie, and he said you needed a few tips on how to un-retire. And I am relatively successful at un-retiring."
Brady, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, had retired earlier this year but returned to the field just weeks later.
Confirming the news, Diaz posted on her Instagram story: "Jamie Foxx, only you could get me back in action!!! I can’t frickin wait it’s gonna be a blast!"
Why Did Cameron Diaz Retire From Acting?
The actor clarified her decision to retire in 2020 during an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow. She then said that the decision of leaving Hollywood left her with "a peace in my soul because I was finally taking care of myself".
Cameron Diaz also said the pressures of leading huge films became "overwhelming":
"It’s a strange thing to say, I know a lot of people won’t understand it, I know you understand it, but it’s so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there.
There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there," she added.
One year later, while speaking to Kevin Hart on the talk show "Hart to Heart", Diaz said:
"When you do something at a really high level for a long period of time, when you’re the person that is delivering one thing, you’re the person on the screen, all parts of you that isn’t that has to sort of be handed off to other people".
Diaz explained that this included different parts of her life, home, and every aspect, from finance, to "just the management of me as a human being, not me as Cameron Diaz the machine".
