Cristiano Ronaldo - The Most Abused Footballer On Twitter
Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammate Harry Maguire were the most abused players on Twitter last season, according to a report published by the Alan Turing Institute and Ofcom, Reuters reports.
According to the study, nearly three-quarters of Premier League footballers received abusive messages, and some even received them daily.
A special algorithm analyzed 2.3 million messages to Premier League players in the first five months of last season.
60,000 posts were identified as abusive, with 68% of Premier League players receiving at least one message during this period and one in 14 receiving abusive messages on a daily basis.

Cristiano Ronaldo received 12,520 abusive tweets while Maguire received 8,954, with Marcus Rashford, also of Manchester United, receiving 2,557.
In fact, eight Manchester United players ranked in an undesirable top 10 in this respect, joined by captain Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur) and Jack Grealish (Manchester City).
However, there were also 57% positive tweets directed at footballers.
In response, a Twitter spokesperson said that a number of safeguards had been put in place to prevent such posts from reaching their recipients.
"We are committed to combating abuse and will never tolerate such discriminatory and hateful posts," the Twitter spokesperson said.
