Dress Worn By Princess Diana Sells For More Than $1.1 Million
An evening dress first worn by Princess Diana in Florence, Italy, in April of 1985, was sold at auction for more than $1.1 Million.
The fabulous dress is the romantic long ballerina evening dress designed exclusively for the Princess of Wales (1961-1997) by the Moroccan-British Jacques Azagury.
The long-sleeve dress features a black velvet bodice with blue metallic stars and a royal blue ballerina skirt with a sash and bow - a nod to Diana's love of ballet.

“The fact that this dress, all these years later, goes for this amount — I think people continue to be in awe of her and her fashion,” Elizabeth Holmes, a fashion critic, and expert in the royal family’s style, said in an interview for New York Times.
“Diana has remained a fashion icon.”, she added.
The Dress Was “Synonymous With The Princess of Wales’s Royal Elegance And eternal Grace"
The impressive velvet evening dress, a design with large shoulders typical of the 1980s was sold at Julien's Auctions in Hollywood for $1,148,080.
"The piece, created by Jacques Azagury, the Moroccan-British fashion designer, was synonymous with the Princess of Wales’s royal elegance and eternal grace,” the Hollywood auction house, Julien’s Auctions, said in a statement.
The auction company added that the design "is sweet and sophisticated, and the silver metallic paint on the velvet sparkles nicely alongside the embroidery to create a design reminiscent of a night's sky".
“The dress was the top-selling item at the auction house’s 4-day ‘Hollywood Legends’ sale, also breaking the world record for the most expensive dress worn by the late princess sold at auction”, describes TMZ.
Diana, who died in 1997, wore the dress for at least two formal public appearances. She first wore the black and blue evening dress in 1985 in Florence, Italy, during a royal tour with Prince Charles, and again at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in 1986.
The regretted iconic princess wore several pieces by the Moroccan-British fashion creator during her time in the royal family.
The sale of the dress came as “The Crown” — the Netflix series about the British royal family - airs its final season.
Earlier this year, an eccentric wool sweater adorned with white sheep and a single black sheep set a record for both the most expensive sweater ever sold at auction and the highest price paid for a clothing item that is not a dress worn by Diana, reaching $1.14 million at Sotheby's New York.
Another Diana-decorated item in the sale, a chiffon blouse she wore for the engagement portrait in 1981, fetched $381,000, over four times the estimate of $80,000. The pale pink blouse has a ruffled collar and pleats.
Other celebrity-worn items from Julien's sale, which concluded on December 17, included a sleeveless dress worn by Gloria Swanson in the classic 1950 film "Sunset Boulevard," a Givenchy dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in the 1963 comedy "Charade," and a sailor dress worn by Barbra Streisand in a 1960s TV special titled "My Name Is Barbra".
