Her closet is full of clothes, what are the odds you will find a new dress that will mesmerize her? And even if you find it, after wearing it a couple of times the new dress will probably end up forgotten, somewhere on a hanger. Makeup? New perfumes? She already has so many and it's complicated to find the right shade or fragrance she likes. The risk of failing is quite high.

But there are also gifts that will surely surprise her and that she will never part with:  a beautiful piece or set of gold vintage jewelry.

Worn by the biggest stars or famous public figures, these jewels are something almost all sophisticated or romantic women sought after. Who has never watched a movie with Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth Taylor and dreamed of their perfect vintage gold jewelry?

If this is your case, at the end of the year, you will be able to make one of her wishes come true thanks to our selection of fine jewelry pieces.

Art Deco Vintage Jewelry

Art Deco jewelry is timeless. Art Deco jewels were sleek and bold, characterized by sharp edges and regularity of surface, line, and volume. With their straight and geometric lines, these are unique and extremely rare vintage pieces. They are currently the most popular on the market.

Made out especially out of platinum (one of the strongest and most technical metals to work with), Art Deco rings, necklaces, bracelets, brooches, or earrings are often paved with diamonds.

Designers also frequently placed rock crystals alongside diamonds. The contrast of colors of the ornamental stones is also a characteristic of the Art Deco period. The designers of those years came with unusual combinations of stones, with many designs combining natural materials such as onyx, emeralds, rubies, jade, silver, ivory, lapis lazuli, and rock crystal with manufactured ones such as plastic and glass.

The most important Houses were Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Janesich, Raymond Templier, Fouquet, Ostertag, René Boivin, Paul Brandt etc.

1940s Vintage Jewelry

At the end of the war, as the Great Depression was ending, clothing and jewelry were especially bright and cheerful, to enhance people's morale during those tough times.

The 1940s was the era of costume jewelry. Jewelry was used to decorate dresses, hats, belts, and shoes. The jewelry from that time is large and refined and it is not uncommon to see pieces adorned with synthetic stones due to the shortage of precious stones. Patriotic symbols, flowers, bows, and whimsical animals were the most common jewelry themes.

Metal and precious gems were in very short supply during the war.  So, new, cheaper materials such as shell, glass, plastic, wood were used to create interested and original jewelry pieces. Vermeil also became a popular choice for costume jewelry, as the jewelry had the appearance of gold, when in fact it was merely coated with a very thin layer of gold.

As for gold jewelry, the weight of a piece was generally a sign of quality and authenticity, especially in the 1940s when the value of gold was much lower. Bracelets can commonly weigh over 100 grams! The fashion mark of this era? Ella Fitzerald.

Cohn and Rosenberger, an American jewelry company, was one of the top jewelry designers in the 1940s. Other well-known designers of that era are Fulco Verdura, Mariam Haskell, Oscar Heyman and Bros, John Rubel, René  Boivin, Paul Sterle, William Ruser, Harry Winston, etc.

The 1960s-1970s Vintage Jewelry

Make way for monumental jewelry pieces and extravagant colors! The jewelry became youthful, creative and bold, and self-confident which aligned with the 60s ideology and fashions.

Many jewelry designers were influenced by Pop Art and Op art ideas and gradually the designs became bolder and eye-catching.

Marilyn Monroe was the muse of that time. At the heart of the current trend, these sought-after vintage gold pieces are often adorned with fine stones such as tourmaline, aquamarine, quartz, or ornamental stones such as tiger's eye, malachite, coral, or onyx.

The bestiary theme is also experiencing a new lease of life with greater creativity and freedom, a mirror of artistic development since Pop Art. The Alhambra by Van Cleef & Arpels, the Serpent Bohème by Boucheron, the Love, and the Juste un Clou by Cartier are all iconic collections that have emerged over the decades.

The most popular pieces were Statement Earrings - long large earrings in geometric shapes  - the big Cocktail Rings, colorful and influenced by Indian and Middle Eastern arts, Bangles in jarring color combination.

And of course, for elegant, refined women, classic is fantastic and it will never get out of fashion.
