Dolly Parton Dedicates The Oscars Of Country Music To The People Of Ukraine
"... and the Oscar of Country Music goes to the heroic people of Ukraine".
The courage of the Ukrainians, who stand up unarmed and fearless in the way of Russian tanks to stop them, impressed people all over the world. And so does the drama experienced by those trapped under the bombings and the mothers who rush to the stations desperately to get their children out of the country.
One of those who wanted to show respect and sympathy for Ukrainians was famous singer Dolly Parton.
The music legend Dolly Parton has dedicated the Oscars of Country Music to the people of Ukraine as she opened the awards ceremony in Las Vegas.
Parton joked she would "rather pass a kidney stone" than get political but asked viewers to send "love and hope" to those affected by the conflict in Ukraine as she compered the Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas on Monday night.
"Now, I don’t want to be political and this is not. I’d rather pass a kidney stone than do that," Dolly said.
"I want us to send our love and hope to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine. So why don’t we just dedicate this entire show to them and pray for peace around this crazy old world."
Ukraine Is Living A Huge Drama
The exodus of refugees from the war in Ukraine is rapidly growing in the Eastern countries of the European Union. With men fighting in Ukraine, many women and children flee alone trying to escape from the war Putin unleashed upon their country. Those who can... because Ukraine has accused Russia of shelling the planned evacuation routes in violation of the ceasefire.
One of the most affected cities of Ukrain is Mariupol, where an estimated 200,000 people are trapped under heavy bombardment by Russian forces.
Two days ago, the city arranged 50 buses, and many people went to the city center to get them. But after less than two hours, Russia's army began shelling residential areas again, trapping civilians who had begun their escape.
The city has no running water, no power, no sanitation, and food and water are fast running out. Many houses are burning and many dead bodies are lying in the streets and no one can carry them.
