Francoise Bettencourt Meyers - The World's Richest Woman
It's no doubt about it: France leads the billionaire rankings. Francoise Bettencourt Meyers, the heiress to the L'Oreal empire, is the richest woman in the world.
She is the granddaughter of the founder of L'Oreal, with an estimated fortune of $80.5 billion. Together with her family, she owns almost 33% of L'Oreal shares.
According to Euronews, Francoise Bettencourt Meyers has been a member of L'Oreal's board of directors since 1997 and is chairman of the family holding company. She became the heiress to L'Oreal in France in 2017 when her mother, Liliane Bettencourt, at that point the world's richest woman, died at the age of 94.
Bettencourt Meyers also heads her family's philanthropic foundation, which encourages French progress in the sciences and arts.
L'Oreal and the Bettencourt Meyers family have agreed to donate $226 million to repair Notre Dame Cathedral following the April 2019 fire.
