Prince Charles Received Bags Of Money From A Sheikh Dubbed "The Man Who Bought London"
Prince Charles of Great Britain allegedly received bags with millions of euros from a Qatari sheik dubbed "the man who bought London".
Prince Charles allegedly received a total of three million euros during meetings with Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani, the former Prime Minister of Qatar, according to The Guardian.
The money was handed to the heir to the British throne in a suitcase on one occasion, in a holdall on another, and in carrier bags from Fortnum & Mason, the luxury department store whici has a royal warrant to supply the prince's household with groceries.
The handovers allegedly took place during meetings between Prince Charles and the Qatari sheik, including a private one-to-one meeting at the royal residence Clarence House in 2015.
Did Prince Charles Receive Money From The Qatari Sheik?
The answer is yes, and it was officially confirmed by a Clarence House spokesperson in a statement in which it was explained that the money given during the 2015 meeting was "passed immediately to one of the prince’s charities who carried out the appropriate covenants and assured us that all the correct processes were followed".
Prince Charles did not handle the money himself, as this was not appropriate for someone of his rank. The suitcase containing the money was taken by two of Charles' advisers, who allegedly counted the cash by hand.
The advisers are said to have asked Coutts, the private bank acting for the royal family, to collect the money.
According to The Sunday Times, each payment was deposited into the accounts of the Prince of Wales's charitable trust (PWCF). There is no suggestion that the payments were illegal.
The Sheikh is one of the world's richest men and has been dubbed "the man who bought London" after he used his wealth, but also his influence over the Qatari Wealth fund, to make huge investments in London.
Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani, the former Prime Minister of Qatar, is also the owner of one of the richest football clubs in the world, Paris Saint-Germain.
