Leading Global Marketplace For Luxury Watches Convinces Ronaldo To Invest

The renowned Portuguese footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, has decided to invest his money in Chrono24, a leading online platform specializing in the sale of luxury watches.

Chrono24 is marking its 20th year in business and retails a variety of luxury new, used and vintage watches, as well as accessories.

The announcement was made by the German company which claims to be a leading force in this dynamic market, according to AFP.

Cristiano Ronaldo is not just acclaimed as a football player, he has also been known to be a watch collector.

In fact, his collection is about as impressive as his sporting career.

“As an athlete, it takes him roughly 90 minutes to win. As an obsessive watch collector, he did it in seconds. Watch lovers all over the world, we have amazing news for you: Cristiano Ronaldo, the football unicorn just joined Chrono24 as a shareholder,” the online marketplace said.

The 38-year-old striker’s investment solidifies Chrono24’s unicorn status in the luxury watch market.

In August 2021, Chrono24 secured $118 million in a Series C round led by these investors, resulting in a valuation exceeding $1 billion today

In a statement released on the company's website, Cristiano Ronaldo expressed his delight in becoming a shareholder of the company, given his long-standing passion for collecting watches and being a regular customer of Chrono24.

However, the exact percentage of Ronaldo's investment and the amount he paid remain undisclosed in the statement, and further details were unavailable as Chrono24 could not be reached for comment.

It's worth noting that Chrono24 also boasts other notable investors, including Frenchman Bernard Arnault, the head of LVMH, a luxury conglomerate.

Recent years have seen a surge in the pre-owned luxury watch market, fueled by Millennials (those born between 1980 and the late 1990s) and Generation Z (born between 1997 and 2010) who aspire to consume luxury in a more responsible manner for the sake of the planet's future.

Chrono24 has more than 530,000 watches from 3,000-plus dealers and 30,000 private sellers across 120 countries.

The portal reaches more than nine million unique visitors per month.
