Louis Vuitton-Nike Sneakers - Sotheby's

No less than 200 fabulous pairs of Louis Vuitton-Nike sneakers designed by the late American designer Virgil Abloh were sold at auction for 25 million dollars.

Virgil Abloh was a world-renowned fashion designer who, unfortunately, died of cancer at the age of 41 on 28 November 2021.

With an average price of $100,000 and a top price of more than $350,000, the auction sale of 200 pairs of Louis Vuitton-Nike sneakers generated total incomes that far exceeded the initial estimates of the auction house, representatives of Sotheby's announced, according to AFP.

Each pair of shoes was sold with an orange Pilot bag.

Sotheby's specialists initially estimated a sale price of between $5,000 and $15,000 for a pair of Louis Vuitton-Nike sneakers and had set a starting price of $2,000 per pair.

The 200 identical pairs of "Air Force 1s" - a model celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2022 - in brown, white, and cream colors and featuring the LVMH-owned Louis Vuitton's familiar checkered pattern and the famous Nike logo wing, went on sale online. There was a large influx of buyers.

The Most Expensive Pair Of Vuitton-Nike Sneakers

The most expensive of these pairs, a European size 36, was sold for an astonishing $352,800.

This sneaker model was unveiled in June 2021, with Louis Vuitton's spring-summer 2022 collection. Virgil Abloh, considered the king of luxury "streetwear" collections, was the artistic director of the famous fashion house.

Virgil Abloh's last collection for Louis Vuitton was presented in Paris on 20 January as part of Pret-a-Porter Men's Fashion Week.

Sotheby's, Louis Vuitton, and Nike announced that Virgil Abloh had participated in the auction before his death and the proceeds will be donated to the Virgil Abloh Post-Modern Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to students of African-American and African descent.

For several years now, sports shoes have become collectors' items that can fetch tens of thousands of dollars at auction. Trying to rejuvenate themselves and increase their customer base, the big names in the luxury goods industry have started to create collections in partnership with well-known sports brands as well as streetwear collections.

Brief History of Virgil Abloh

Born on September 30, 1980, in Rockford, Illinois, Virgil Abloh was the son of Ghanaian immigrants. He was married and the father of two children, Lowe and Gray.

A hip-hop fan, he started DJing in high school before graduating with a degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin and architecture from the Illinois Institute of Technology. In the early 2000s, he became an art consultant for Kanye West, advising him on album covers and concert set designs in particular.

He created Pyrex Vision in 2012, and a year later Off-White was born, a luxury streetwear brand that established itself through the strength of its graphics and later evolved into creations in the "couture" area.

Virgil Abloh has established himself in a few years as one of the coolest designers of his generation. Rewarded several times for his work, he received the prestigious "Urban Luxe" award at the 2017 and 2018 British Fashion Awards.

His arrival at LVMH  - the world's number one luxury brand - marked the combination of streetwear and high-end fashion, bringing together sneakers and camouflage pants and tailored suits and evening dresses. His influences included graffiti, hip-hop culture, and skateboarding.

Virgil Abloh's fashion shows included poetry shows and art installations.
