The Slap From The Oscar Gala Has A High Price. Will Smith's Projects - Stalled Or Threatened
Some of the productions Will Smith was working on have been stalled after the outrageous incident at the Oscar Gala when the legendary actor hit Chris Rock on stage.
Streaming giant Netflix has reportedly slowed development on the upcoming thriller "Fast and Loose" to which Smith was attached. According to Variety, the producers are looking for a new director because the film has been discontinued and added that "it remains uncertain whether Netflix will continue the movie and, if so, it is uncertain if Will Smith will play or Netflix will seek a new start for the project."
That’s not the only bad news for Will Smith though. Apple+ has declined to comment on when its slave drama "Emancipation" starring Smith will be released despite a planned 2022 debut.
Sony has also reportedly paused development on a "Bad Boys 4" project which was in "active development" before the Oscars.
Since the incident at the Oscar Gala when he slapped Chris Rock after a joke about his wife's alopecia, Will Smith has apologized both to the Academy and to Rock and also resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences calling his own actions "shocking, painful and inexcusable".
The Incident Between Will Smith And Chris Rock
During the 94th annual Academy Awards, Chris Rock made a joke about Will Smith's wife, Jada Pinkett Smith (50).
After Pinkett Smith rolled her eyes at Chris Rock, a sign that she didn't like the joke at all, her husband, Will Smith, rushed on the stage and slapped Chris Rock.
A source spoke to US Weekly about how Jada sees the Oscar incident. She is not angry with her husband, but she "wishes he didn’t" get physical with the comedian.
"It was in the heat of the moment and it was him overreacting. He knows that she knows that. They’re in agreement that he overreacted," a source exclusively tells US Weekly about where the couple stands now.
