The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to Variety that actor Chris Rock "refused to file a complaint" following an altercation with Will Smith at the 94th American Film Academy Awards Gala on Sunday night.
"LAPD investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards program. The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved has declined to file a police report. If the party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report."
An LAPD spokesman said there was no deadline to file a complaint and that it would "complete a report at any time in the future."
"For misdemeanor crimes, the victim cooperation is important in a successful prosecution," the spokesman added.
While presenting the best documentary at the Oscars, Chris Rock made a joke about the bald head of Jada Pinkett Smith, Will Smith's wife, which he compared to Demi Moore's "G.I. Jane ”(1997). Rock said he can't wait to see Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia, in "G.I. Jane 2 ”,
