Henry Dankner Jewelry

Henry Dankner was a renowned American jeweler celebrated for his exceptional craftsmanship and elegant designs. Specializing in fine jewelry, Dankner's creations often featured intricate detailing and high-quality gemstones, blending timeless sophistication with contemporary allure. His work is highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs for its artistry and enduring value, cementing his legacy in the world of luxury jewelry.

Henry’s journey in the jewelry world began in Budapest, Hungary, where he founded his namesake company, Dankner, in the 1930s. The business thrived until the Nazi occupation of Budapest in 1944, forcing the Dankner family to flee Hungary after their workshop was seized and its valuable materials confiscated, with most prewar items likely melted down.

Upon arriving in the United States, Henry re-established his company in the 1950s, focusing on charm manufacturing. Through tireless dedication and countless hours of hard work, the company grew steadily, employing over 27 people by the 1960s. Dankner’s charms, often marked with “Dankner” or a “D” encircled by a wreath, became highly regarded, with later pieces distributed by esteemed jewelry houses such as Cartier, Harry Winston, and Van Cleef & Arpels.

Following Henry’s passing, his sons, Robert and George Dankner, continued the family legacy, operating the business from its longtime location at 71 West 47th Street in New York City. After more than six decades of excellence, the company closed its doors, donating its molds, paperwork, and artifacts to the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, preserving the Dankner legacy for future generations to admire and study.
