London Fashion Week Without Burberry Or Victoria Beckham
London Fashion Week, devoted to the fall/winter 2022 collections, opened for five days without a few leading brands, including Burberry, Victoria Beckham, JW Anderson, and Christopher Kane.
The reasons invoked for these absences are various. Burberry, the brand that will be most sorely missed, because of its ability to attract fashion’s key international editors and buyers, will have a physical runway show in London, but off schedule on 11 March shortly after Paris comes to an end, Vogues says.
Victoria Beckham is said to be creating a collection film to be shown during Paris Fashion Week. Jonathan Anderson is going on the road and Christopher Kane is showing off-schedule on Instagram. As for Alexander McQueen, another leading London brand, he will show off-schedule in New York.
However, the absence of the consecrated British Brands represents an opportunity for new coming designers to make their collections noticed and to shine.
Live CatWalks Shows This Year At London Fashion Week
Last year's London Fashion Week was held in a 100% virtual format, due to the lockdown imposed by the coronavirus pandemic.
This time, the program includes 37 live shows with the public, including well-known brands such as Simone Rocha, Molly Goddard, Roksanda, Erdem, and Rejina Pyo, which present collections for both women and men.
Other designers such as punk queen Vivienne Westwood prefer to stick to a digital format. Westwood will present her latest creations in a video. Fashion shows that the general public will be able to follow or review on the Fashion Week digital platform, launched in June 2020, in the midst of a pandemic.
Also in the spirit of bringing fashion lovers around the world closer, Serbian designer Roksanda Ilincic will present her fall/winter 2022 collection in the form of an NFT, created by the Digital Fashion Institute. It will be available for purchase on roksanda.com.
London Fashion Week will be followed by Milan and Paris.
