As a result of this decision, the couple stopped receiving security and funding from the Royal House.

In March 2021, in an interview hosted by Oprah, the couple spoke about the reasons why they withdrew from the royal family. Meghan said she felt captive, that she had suicidal thoughts and that, although she asked for help, she did not receive it.
