Jean François Mancel 18th-Century French Gold Etui Sealing Wax Case

Objet d'art Louis XVI-era etui, masterly crafted in yellow gold bears an exceptional engraved design punctuated by florals and garlands. Etuis were once carried by important members of society to carry tiny toiletries, sealing wax, personal effects, and also concealing correspondence between lovers.

Confidential notes would be tucked inside the box, which would then have been sealed with wax for security. Stunning in its artistry and craftsmanship, this etui reflects the 18th-century taste for classical ornamentation. Hallmark by master goldsmith Jean François Mancel 1780-1790. Charge marked by Henri Clavel. Approximate Measurements: Hight 4.5", Width 0.55",  Weight 34.5 Grams.
