Pair of Antique Imperial Russian Egor Samoshin Silver-Gilt Cloisonné Enamel Goblets

Sale price$9,500.00

Moscow 84-Zolotnik Silver Stemmed Cups with Polychrome Cloisonné Enamel

A striking pair of antique Imperial Russian silver-gilt goblets attributed to Moscow silversmith Egor Samoshin, dating to the early 20th century.

Each stemmed cup is richly decorated in the cloisonné enamel technique, with intricate floral and foliate scrollwork outlined by fine silver wires. The elaborate design combines shades of turquoise, cobalt blue, pale blue, green, yellow, pink, white and red against a dark stippled ground.

Geometric enamel borders encircle the upper rims, tapered stems and circular bases, creating a richly layered design from top to bottom. The interiors and exposed silver surfaces are finished in warm gilding.

The pieces bear the maker’s Cyrillic “ЕС” mark, visually resembling the Latin letters “EC,” together with the Russian 84-zolotnik silver standard, equivalent to approximately .875 silver. The accompanying Kokoshnik assay mark indicates Moscow production during the late Imperial Russian period.

Measuring approximately 4 inches high, these finely crafted goblets would have been suitable as small wine, cordial or liqueur cups. Their paired form, elaborate enamel decoration and recognized maker make them particularly appealing to collectors of Russian silver, cloisonné enamel and decorative objects.

Collector’s Note

Pairs of Imperial Russian cloisonné enamel goblets are less frequently encountered than individual beakers and small cups. The extensive enamel decoration covering the bowls, stems and bases gives these examples a strong visual presence, while the maker’s mark and Moscow silver standard add historical and collector interest.
